About the product

The Makita MAC700 Big Bore 2.0 HP Air Compressor is amongst the best in its class being highly suited to the home DIYer, the hobbyist and the professional alike.

It is reliable and light enough to be portable whilst having the industrial power and durability needed for the heavy work encountered in site conditions.

The high output and low noise level when running makes this machine a popular choice for all.

The low amp draw means that it you don’t need a heavy AC circuit and reduces the occurrence of tripped breakers.

You can use the compressor for a variety of jobs and tools due to the fast recovery speed. The oil lubricated design requires a small amount of routine maintenance, but ensures it will give you years of service over the oil-free compressors of a similar size and output and contributes to the incredibly quiet running noise.

Makita, lives up to its good reputation for well-made power tools with the quality and usability of the Makita MAC700 Big Bore 2.0 HP Air Compressor. The attention to detail and the durable materials used are in keeping with their reputed high standards of manufacture.

Uses – What does it do? What is it For?

This is the compressor we use with the Bostitch F28WW Clipped Head 2-inch to 3-1/2-inch Framing Nailer (reviewed here) and we find it ideal. Other air tools such as the STAPLER work well with it too.

It’s small enough to take to a convenient position when working on the roof or in other difficult spots. When not on duty on the heavier work it’s great to have in the garage to inflate tires, blow up the kids’ paddling pool or other such toys and can be used to clean out jets and such with a blow-gun. Although this will drain the tank quickly, recovery is fast.

If you have a Riding Mower, a Camper – or anything with inflatable tires this compressor is a household must, saving time and trouble – especially if you if you live out of town.

Usability, Handling, Ease of use
Although a little heavy to haul around it is compact in size and has a roll-bar handle which is comfortable to use and offers extra protection to the machine in transit.

Noise level
This is the quietest air compressor we have found. We have used it in a basement without disturbing the household – and we can still hear each other speak above the sound of the motor – without having to shout…

Maintenance
The oil sight glass and the removable cast-iron cylinder make maintenance simple and easy, and the tough roll-bar protects components from knocks.

Accessories
Compressor oil and 1/4-inch universal quick coupler are included.

Air hose and fittings need to be bought separately. You’ll need an air valve and maybe some additional connectors depending on your use.

Pros

Quiet, tough, versatile, reliable and easy to maintain.

Makita tools come with a warranty to be free of defects from workmanship and materials for the period of ONE YEAR from the date of original purchase.

Cons

This compressor is not designed to run high air consumption tools such as impact wrenches and air chisels.

Although described as lightweight, and the compressor is certainly portable, some may find the compressor a little heavy. The upright design means that it tends to roll and must be securely tied when transporting in a vehicle.
